(Alan Braxe & Romuald); 2002, Gildas Loaëc introduced me to Romuald who just released music on the brand new Kitsuné label. We’re hanging out near the Roulé office in Montmartre, and after a few words we decide to work together on a song. A few weeks later, Romuald is coming to my studio in a rental house near Paris. My previous bedroom studio is now a basement studio. Not a super friendly space, good, we’ll only have music to comfort us. Romuald struggles with the cigarette smoke I generate. We can’t really open the window. There’s a main road Paris / Versailles just behind, very noisy. The starting point is a simple loop, piano, drums, Vox pad that I prepared the day before. Maybe it’s laziness or maybe Romuald wanted to shorten the session because the smoke was too intense. We agree on minimal lyrics « In Love With You » nothing else, over & over. During the whole song, he sings lead harmonies, it’s in the box. We’re happy listening to the song progressing very well, and then Rachel enters the Studio. Blushing face: « Alain, I am pregnant » we all smile, time to leave the studio, and celebrate. It took a couple of days to finish the song after, too much bass in the mixdown, but as usual Nilesh Patel solved the problem during the mastering. -Alan Braxe, 2023
